Mission and Purpose of the Unity Committee

The Houston Transgender Unity Committee was formed in 1998 to bridge the gap between the various groups and organizations representing transgender persons in the Houston area, to promote unity among the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community, and to educate and advocate with open and honest advocacy. The Committee has representation from the six transgendered Houston area organizations.

The Houston Transgender Unity Committee is organized to coordinate and plan events and activities for the Houston transgender community including the annual Unity Banquet held in April, the Pride Parade, The TG Day of Remembrance, and other events that benefit or enhance the Houston transgender community. In 2003 the Committee established the Peggy Rudd Transgender Scholarship Fund and at the 2006 Unity Banquet awarded the first scholarships to area transgendered persons who are attending accredited colleges and universities.

The Houston Transgender Unity Committee has received final approval of the Committee's 501c3 application to the Internal Revenue Service. With this approval, the Committee will be able to grant through the IRS 501c3 designation tax deductions for donations to the Committee for the scholarship fund and other programs and activities.
